Templar Reparations!

Supposed descendants of the Knights Templar of old are launching a lawsuit against the Catholic Church for over $150 billion. Yes, that's billions with a "B".

They claim that their ancestors' assets were seized by the church and their name was defamed. From my historical understanding, the Templars were indeed defamed by the king of France at the time, because the king saw them as threats to his power and them tried on false charges of denying God and sodomy. This lawsuit, however, is being filed in Spain so who knows?

While I can sympathize with that, I can't get behind any sort of effort for people living today receiving damages done to people done in the past. Slavery reparations here in America come to mind. Also, there is probably no way the wealth of any Templar would have lasted to this day to these specific descendants, and they are no doubt factoring in millenia of inflation.

Furthermore, I give points for humor to the writer of the article on this story in the Daily Telegraph: "She calls the claim 'ludicrous' and says Spanish papers have suggested the issue is something for psychiatrists to decide rather than historians."

Get a life people! That is sad. I cannot image why they do not simply make a living. Well, perhaps I can, but still...

Let the bygones go by!
